GGZ

GGZ designates a cast-coated, fully bleached cellulose board in packaging printing.

GMG

GMG ColorServer is a company based in Tübingen, which has made a name with the development of color management software. For over 25 years GMG has been developing anything from printer drivers to complex Proof software.

GOE

2007 PANTONE introduced the GOE color system with more than 2,000 colors, which was originally intended to replace the Pantone Matching System PMS. It was discontinued in February 2014 by Pantone and no longer exists in the market.

Gradient

A colour that usually goes from saturated to less saturated over an area.
The gradient can also run from one colour to another, or several colours.

Gravure Printing

Gravure printing is one of the oldest printing processes that is still used today.
The print image is engraved into the printing cylinder (or printing plate). It is then dipped into the ink and the excess ink is scraped off, leaving only the ink in the depressions (cells). Finally, this ink is transferred to the printing substrate using high pressure and the absorbency of the paper.

Grey balance

Grey balance is the ratio of the base colours (process colours) CMY (cyan, magenta, yellow) in four-colour printing, through which an optically neutral grey is achieved.

GT

GT refers to a coated secondary fibre board.

GTI

The GTI GmbH is beside Just Normlicht a renowned manufacturer of standard light tubes and standardized light consoles and colour cabins.

GTIN

The Global Trade Identification Number is synonymous with 8- and 13-digit bar code.

GZ

GZ refers to a coated, bleached pulp board in packaging printing.

Heaven 42

Heaven 42 is a high-white (CIE = 157), coated fine paper of Scheufelen in Lenningen in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Heaven 42 is especially suitable for technical motifs (shades of gray, silver tones from 4c, strong chiaroscuro contrasts). These perform on Heaven 42 particularly brilliant and neutral. For warm tones (z. B. skintones) color adjustments are recommended.

HKS

HKS is a German color system, which was developed by the companies Horstmann-Steinberg, Kast + Ehinger and H. Schmincke and Co., hence the name: HKS.

HLC

HLC is an easy to understand representation of the CIELAB colour space. It has an identical vertical L-axis. The horizontal position of a colour location is determined here by the angle H to the positive a-axis (counterclockwise and in the unit degree) and the radius C, the distance to the L-axis.

HSB

HSB is short for Hue, Saturation and Brightness and is a colour system.

Hydrophilic

Means water-attracting, moisture-loving (ancient Greek: hýdor “water”, phílos “loving”). Hydrophilic surfaces absorb water and can thus be wetted with water.

Hydrophobic

Means water-repellent or not water-soluble (ancient Greek: hýdor “water”, phóbos “fear”). Water rolls off hydrophobic materials without moistening them.

ICC

The International Color Consortium, in short ICC, is an international committee responsible for the standardization of colour profiles.

Intermediate binding

“Intermediate Binding” workflow means that RGB image data is inserted into the layout during separation, and a colour space separation from RGB into the CMYK output colour space is not performed until PDF export to the print file.

ISO 12647

In the ISO 12647 the ISO norm for standardized printing. It shows the main cornerstones for standardized, color-accurate prints.

ISOCoatedV2

ISOcoatedv2 is the most common color profile used in the printing industry in Europe. It represents the most common printing methods: offset printing on matte or glossy coated paper. It is no wonder that most printers presuppose the ISOcoatedv2 profile for prints. ISOcoatedv2 is valid for both glossy and matte photo paper, since the two papers hardly differ in color.
