In recent years, various problems have arisen with our previous proof paper supplier. On the one hand, we sometimes had to wait more than three months for paper deliveries; on the other hand, we sometimes had significant problems with batch-to-batch discrepancies, surface defects and much more. After lengthy deliberations, we decided in December to replace all the paper. We therefore received pallets of new paper at the turn of the year, which we are now gradually incorporating into our production.
There will be no hard cut, but the new papers will creep into production over time, so that at some point our customers will simply receive new papers for their proofs. For the classic ISOCoatedV2 image printing proofs this is the case as of today, that we only use our new proof.de Proofing Substrate 250 Semimatte. But there is no reason to worry: In most cases, our customers will not notice this at all, only in individual changeovers where the paper weights have changed in some cases or the new papers have a slightly different feel.
New for classic image printing proofs:
The proof.de Proofing Substrate 250 Semimatte
For our main paper for classic proofs according to ISOCoatedV2 and the classic PSO and PSR standards, we now use our own production, the proof.de Proofing Substrate 250 Semimatte, for which we have recently received the ‘Proofing Substrate’ certificate from Fogra. The FOGRA certification guarantees tested quality.
The PE paper coating means it dries very quickly and is ideal for our proof printers. The proof.de Proofing Substrate 250 Semimatte has been tested according to the FOGRA 39 and Fogra 51 Proofing Substrate criteria and fulfils all specifications for contract proofs in offset, gravure and screen printing.

We will use the Proof.de Proofing Substrate 250 Semimatte to print all classic proofs for ISOCoatedV2, but also all classic web offset and gravure profiles.

Premium proof substrates from GMG Color
We are very grateful to our neighbour GMG Color and contact person Michael Weihing that we can fall back on the outstanding proof papers from GMG for the semi-matt picture printing with OBA, i.e. optical brighteners, and the uncoated papers with and without optical brighteners. We now use the following GMG papers:
GMG ProofMedia premium OBA semiMatte 250
GMG ProofMedia premium OBA semiMatte 250 was developed for the simulation of optical brighteners (OBAs), coated and semi-gloss papers and is suitable for proofs for offset packaging printing, commercial printing and publication printing. GMG ProofMedia premium OBA semiMatte 250 has been developed using the latest coating technology. An extremely fine surface coating ensures a large colour gamut and high resolution. The proof medium has a high resistance to light and ageing, which ensures colour consistency for a contract proof.

GMG ProofMedia studio matte 200
GMG ProofMedia studio matte 200 is for proofing products that are printed on uncoated production substrates without optical brighteners. For many applications in the packaging sector – whether folding cartons, corrugated board or similar – proofing on OBA-free paper enables reliable predictability. The same applies to decor or book printing and all print productions in accordance with Fogra 47.
Compared to many other matt proof media, GMG ProofMedia studio matt 200 can reproduce a wider colour gamut due to its high brightness in highlight areas. The extremely smooth surface enables the finest structures to be reproduced in sharp detail – with consistent colours of high intensity. GMG ProofMedia studio matte 200 has very good mechanical stability, which has a positive effect on the result, especially with uncoated media with higher ink application.

GMG ProofMedia studio OBA matte 150
GMG ProofMedia studio OBA matte 150 was developed for high-precision proofing with maximum visual consistency for the most commonly used uncoated production papers.
In addition to a high level of optical brighteners (OBAs), GMG ProofMedia studio OBA matte 150 also contains a high brightness level with an L* value of 97, giving OBA matte 150 a wider colour gamut in highlight areas than many other matte proofing media.

Paper white of many paper manufacturers and online printers measured
We spectrally measured the paper white tone and the proportion of optical brighteners of over 1,000 papers of the most important paper manufacturers such as Berberich and Papier Union as well as online printing companies such as Flyeralarm and wir-machen-druck.de.
