The artbox is the smallest box within a PDF file. It contains the area that is to be used when importing the PDF file into other software. It is comparable to the size specification when importing an EPS file. The art box is essentially a user-defined rectangle that specifies the area within the page in which the content is to be placed.
The use of the type box is not common in all PDF files and depends on the creation method or software used.
Various boxes are defined in PDF files that determine the page content and dimensions of a document. The most common boxes in a PDF document are
- Media Box: Defines the dimensions of the physical page of the document.
- Crop Box: Defines the visible area of the page after the content has been cropped.
- Bleed Box: Defines the area of the page that is used for printing and extends beyond the bleed.
- Trim Box: Defines the final trimmed area of the page.
- Type Box: This box is optional and is normally used to define the area in which the page content is to be drawn.
