Heaven 42

Heaven 42 is a high-white (CIE = 157), coated fine paper of Scheufelen in Lenningen in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Heaven 42 is especially suitable for technical motifs (shades of gray, silver tones from 4c, strong chiaroscuro contrasts). These perform on Heaven 42 particularly brilliant and neutral. For warm tones (z. B. skintones) color adjustments are recommended.

High Speed Inkjet

High-speed inkjet printing will revolutionise the printing industry with its impressive speed, and more and more printing machines and applications are in the starting blocks or are already being used in the first branches of industry. Compared to traditional printing processes such as offset, high-speed inkjet printers can complete small-volume print jobs in particular much faster. This higher production speed enables print shops to significantly reduce their throughput times and thus increase their productivity. Especially in areas such as direct mailing and transaction printing, where fast turnaround times are crucial, …

HKS

HKS is a German color system, which was developed by the companies Horstmann-Steinberg, Kast + Ehinger and H. Schmincke and Co., hence the name: HKS.

HLC

HLC is an easy to understand representation of the CIELAB colour space. It has an identical vertical L-axis. The horizontal position of a colour location is determined here by the angle H to the positive a-axis (counterclockwise and in the unit degree) and the radius C, the distance to the L-axis.

HSB

HSB is short for Hue, Saturation and Brightness and is a colour system.

Hybrid screening

A hybrid screening is a combination of amplitude-modulated (AM) and frequency-modulated (FM) screening.

Hydrophilic

Means water-attracting, moisture-loving (ancient Greek: hýdor “water”, phílos “loving”). Hydrophilic surfaces absorb water and can thus be wetted with water.

Hydrophobic

Means water-repellent or not water-soluble (ancient Greek: hýdor “water”, phóbos “fear”). Water rolls off hydrophobic materials without moistening them.

ICC

The International Color Consortium, in short ICC, is an international committee responsible for the standardization of colour profiles.

IDEAlliance

The IDEAlliance (International Digital Enterprise Alliance) is an important organisation that is active in the printing and publishing industry worldwide. It was originally founded in 2004 when several industry associations merged to form the IDEAlliance. Its aim is to support the digital transformation in the printing industry and to develop standards and solutions that help printing companies to remain competitive and fit for the future. The IDEAlliance is a non-profit organisation focused on the development and promotion of best practices, standards and technologies to improve the efficiency and quality of …

Ink Saver

Ink Saver software is designed to reduce ink consumption during printing. It offers functions to save around 10-30% of ink, e.g. in offset printing.

Intermediate binding

“Intermediate Binding” workflow means that RGB image data is inserted into the layout during separation, and a colour space separation from RGB into the CMYK output colour space is not performed until PDF export to the print file.

ISO 12647

In the ISO 12647 the ISO norm for standardized printing. It shows the main cornerstones for standardized, color-accurate prints.

ISO 3664:2009

ISO 3664:2009 is an ISO standard that specifies lighting conditions for the visual assessment of colours and printed matter in prepress and other areas. To ensure that colour perception takes place under standardised conditions, the standard defines many aspects of lighting and describes the following aspects: Lighting conditions: The standard defines specific requirements for lighting. These include colour temperature, spectral distribution and stability to ensure consistent and accurate colour perception. Colour temperature: The standard recommends a colour temperature of 5000 Kelvin (D50 standard light), which corresponds approximately to a neutral …

ISOCoatedV2

ISOcoatedv2 is the most common color profile used in the printing industry in Europe. It represents the most common printing methods: offset printing on matte or glossy coated paper. It is no wonder that most printers presuppose the ISOcoatedv2 profile for prints. ISOcoatedv2 is valid for both glossy and matte photo paper, since the two papers hardly differ in color.

IT8 Control Chart

The IT8-Chart is a defined measuring field table which is used to create ICC profiles. This table has been declared in ISO 12642.

JMPA

JMPA, Japan Magazine Publishers Association (http://www.j-magazine.or.jp/index_e.html). There also exists the JPMA, Japan Printing Machinery Association (http://www.jpma-net.or.jp/en/), an association of manufacturers of printing presses and machines for the further processing.

Job ticket

Each colour and legally binding proof comes with a job ticket on which the most important frame data for the proof and data processing are listed. The job ticket is usually placed between the proof and the media wedge.
