Hybrid screening

A hybrid screening is a combination of amplitude-modulated (AM) and frequency-modulated (FM) screenings. Light-coloured image areas are printed with AM screenings and dark image areas with FM screenings. The result is a softer and more even print than with an AM or FM screening alone.

Hybrid screening is mainly used in offset and digital printing. They offer advantages over pure AM screening, such as better reproduction of fine details, better edge definition and a lower tendency to moiré effects.
