Anyone who has reinstalled or updated their i1 Profiler app in the last few weeks has been confronted with disturbing news: X-Rite announced directly in the start window that it would no longer support its enormously popular i1Display and i1Pro2 devices.
“Important note
The i1Pro 2 family of devices reached end of service January 1, 2025. The i1Pro 2 and i1iO 2 will no longer be supported in i1Profiler beginning January 1, 2026. To upgrade to the i1Pro3, please contact X-Rite sales.
i1Profiler no longer supports the X-Rite devices i1Display Pro and i1Display Pro Plus. However, they are supported by software from Calibrite, an X-Rite partner. Please visit X-Rite i1Display Upgrades to learn more.”
Users of the i1Pro 2 devices and i1iO 2 tables, which are extremely popular in printing and colour management, will be particularly hard hit by the announcement: An investment of €6,000 is quickly consigned to the electronic scrap heap. But what can you do if you own such a combination or have many i1Pro 2 measuring devices in your company?

What to do? Option 1: Continue to operate the computer with the ‘old’ i1 Profiler software
Have a computer ready on which you can keep the last software still supporting these devices alive. Because, as the X-Rite support team let us know:
‘… as long as a version that still has the i1Pro 2 in it still runs on the current Mac / Windows operating systems (i.e. even after January 2026), you can still use it.’
So be prepared to park an older Mac Mini with the latest i1 Profiler software, which still supports the i1Pro 2, somewhere in a corner of the office so that you can continue to operate the iO table and the i1. Is there another alternative? X-Rite Support can also give you a hint here:
Option 2: Buy a new i1Pro 3 and transfer the i1 Profiler licence to the new device
X-Rite writes:
“In the current version of i1Profiler (and another version is expected to follow in autumn 2025, which will also include i1Pro 2), you can transfer licences from i1Pro 2 to i1Pro 3 using the “Transfer License” function (option in the i1Profiler main window).
This can also be found directly in the software:

Of course, Proof GmbH is no exception: we currently have two X-Rite i1Pro 2 and one i1iO 2 table in use. We bought the iO table to measure the free CIELAB HLC Colour Atlas, which would have been almost impossible to do otherwise at the time. We bought the iO 2, which was quite expensive: today, 3D printers on Ebay also offer to print mounts for the i1Pro 2 for the iO 1 table for a mere €90, as this can then be used with an i1Pro 2. X-Rite had already put its own market under pressure. And X-Rite used to offer an upgrade of the i1 table for the i1Pro 2, which cost around €350 directly from X-Rite, so it was a pretty fair price.
X-Rite offers a variety of trade-in promotions to compensate for this
In order not to scare its customers too much, X-Rite is currently offering 9 trade-in promotions in which old measuring devices, hardware and software can be exchanged for new versions, thus saving up to 35% of the purchase price of the new solution. Anyone who wants to can save some money on the purchase of a new i1Pro 3 or eXact 2 by handing in or destroying their old device. This is sure to comfort and appease one or two customers.

But X-Rite is not the only company that is currently getting rid of customers: KonicaMinolta has also discontinued all of its MYIRO measuring devices and software, which leaves a big gap; we also own a MYIRO-9, for example, which is no longer being sold by KonicaMinolta and whose days are numbered in terms of support.
Will Datacolor seize the opportunity and win new customers?
It has been rumoured in the background for some time that Datacolor is positioning itself and preparing new products with new software solutions. After the purchase of Matchmycolor from Basel with the Colibri software series, the company bought Techkon Germany and USA and thus acquired a high-quality solution with the SpectroDens, whereby problems were also reported here in the series, so that no devices could be delivered for weeks.
Datacolor has also strengthened its development activities in recent months and is targeting new software solutions on the market.
And Datacolor is currently offering a new portable spectrophotometer from the Spectro-P series to compete with the X-Rite eXact 2 and take market share from X-Rite:

The products offer attractive technical data, nothing is yet known about the prices, although two offer PDFs to Abu Dhabi, which can be found online, mention a price of USD 13,500 for the Datacolor Spectro P300, which was offered from Germany to Abu Dhabi in June 2025.

Compared to the X-Rite eXact 2, this would be a significant jump in price.
