Examination board

The IHK examination board for media designers – what exactly do they do? Quite simply, they are the centrepiece of the examination process. But what does that mean in concrete terms? Let’s delve into their tasks and their importance for the training of media designers.

Planning and organising

First and foremost, the examination board takes care of the assessment of the examinations; the prior planning and organisation of the examinations is carried out purely by the IHK and the vocational school. The IHK sets the dates, ensures that all examination documents are available in good time, the examination tasks are developed by the ZFA and are the same for the whole of Germany. The ZFA also ensures that the tasks not only correspond to current training standards, but are also fair and feasible. The aim is to give the candidates a real chance to demonstrate their skills.

Testing and evaluation

Then comes the exciting part: conducting the examinations. Here, the members of the examination board ensure that the trainees’ performance in the practical part is assessed correctly. A keen eye and a lot of experience are required here. The candidates’ work is assessed and evaluated directly. The examiners attach great importance to transparency and comprehensibility. Everyone should be able to understand how the assessments are arrived at.

Deciding and developing further

After the assessment, things get serious: has the candidate passed or failed? This decision is made by the commission on the basis of the assessments. Those who pass receive the long-awaited examination certificate. And what happens if someone is unhappy with the result? Then the committee is also called upon. It examines objections and complaints and decides on possible measures.

But their work is far from over. The commission is also working on improving and adapting the examination requirements and content by providing the ZFA with feedback on the examination tasks. The professional field of media design is constantly changing and training must keep pace.
